I've read somewhere, Emacs was important for the development of the idea of Free Software. How can that be, it's just a piece of software? Or is more to it?
There is even a church of Emacs. Emacs is also part of hacker folklore.
What is the influence/significance of Emacs to the Free Software Movement?
